About the Series
Kaiju No. 8 is an explosive sci-fi action manga created by Naoya Matsumoto. Serialized digitally on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform since July 2020, it quickly became one of the fastest-growing hits in the service's history.
The story takes place in Japan, a country suffering from the world's highest rate of giant monster (Kaiju) attacks. To protect citizens, the Defense Force battles Kaiju, while specialized disposal teams clean up the leftover monster carcasses.
Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old worker in the Kaiju disposal industry, has long given up on his childhood goal of joining the Defense Force alongside his childhood friend Mina Ashiro. However, after meeting ambitious young coworker Reno Ichikawa, Kafka's determination is rekindled.
Just as Kafka decides to reapply, a mysterious small Kaiju enters his body through his mouth, granting him the uncanny ability to transform into a humanoid Kaiju designated "Kaiju No. 8." Hiding his true identity, Kafka joins the Defense Force to fight at the frontlines.
