About this series

High School Exciting (Koukou Tekkendan Tough) is a legendary martial arts action manga created by Tetsuya Saruwatari. The story follows Kiichi Miyazawa, a high school student and heir to Nada Shinkage-ryu, a secret assassin art handed down through generations.

Under the rigorous guidance of his father Seiko, Kiichi honed extraordinary striking and joint-locking techniques. Driven by respect for his bloodline and a desire to save his injured father, Kiichi enters secret underground fighting rings and full-contact tournaments.

The series stands out for its realistic depictions of mixed martial arts, traditional Japanese combat styles, and anatomical joint attacks. Saruwatari's artwork delivers visceral impact, portraying every strike, grapple, and bone-crunching hold with raw intensity.

Serialized for a decade in Weekly Young Jump, the series spawned multiple sequels including TOUGH and Tough Gaiden. It remains an enduring cornerstone of martial arts manga history.
