Pochi Kuro is a fantasy comedy and romance manga written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto, who would later gain worldwide fame as the creator of Kaiju No. 8. The series stands as one of the inaugural launch titles for Shueisha's digital platform Shonen Jump+ in 2014.
The story takes place in the Demon Realm, where humans are mythologized as the ultimate gourmet delicacy. Chaos ensues when Kuro, a carefree young demon, accidentally fishes a human high school girl out of a magic pool and names her 'Pochi' like a pet dog.
Although Kuro initially considers serving Pochi as a feast for his demon pals, he quickly becomes captivated by her innocence and resolves to protect her from hungry demons. Despite the language barrier preventing them from understanding each other's words, a sweet and protective bond forms between them.
Running from 2014 to 2015 and compiled into 4 complete volumes, Pochi Kuro blends energetic slapstick humor with heartwarming romantic comedy. Matsumoto's expressive character designs and comedy timing shine throughout this delightful fantasy adventure.
