THE COMIQ is a short suspense thriller written and illustrated by Kazuki Takahashi, famous for creating Yu-Gi-Oh!. Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump to commemorate the magazine's 50th anniversary, this story pivots away from card battles into psychological investigation.
The narrative follows Ryota Sakamaki, an inexperienced shojo manga creator who struggles with tight deadlines. To keep up with his workload, Sakamaki relies on an exceptionally skilled anonymous assistant who communicates solely by uploading completed background assets online.
Complications arise when police contact Sakamaki regarding a obscure mark embedded inside one of his published chapters. Investigators recognize the drawing as a vital clue tied to the Halloween Murder Case, a high-profile homicide that remains unresolved.
Sakamaki visits the mysterious assistant in prison and learns the worker is an inmate seeking to prove his innocence. Together, they use subtle details embedded within comic panels to unmask the true culprit behind the crime.
