About the Work

Assassination Classroom is a hugely popular shonen manga series written and illustrated by Yusei Matsui. Combining action, comedy, and heartwarming coming-of-age drama, the story opens with a mysterious yellow, tentacled creature destroying 70% of the Earth's moon. He threatens to destroy the planet within one year unless a specific condition is fulfilled.

Oddly enough, the creature demands to become the homeroom teacher of Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High School, a class reserved for academic underachievers. The Japanese government promises a massive financial reward to any student in Class 3-E who manages to assassinate their teacher before graduation. The students nickname their new instructor 'Koro-sensei', a play on words meaning unkillable teacher.

Despite his incomprehensible speed and terrifying capabilities, Koro-sensei proves to be an exceptionally attentive and compassionate educator. He tailors his teaching methods to each student's unique abilities, helping them overcome academic hurdles and personal insecurities. As the school year progresses, the bond between the students and their target deepens into profound mutual respect.

Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2016, Assassination Classroom received widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. Its creative mix of high-stakes tension and uplifting educational themes resonates with audiences of all ages. The manga concluded its storyline seamlessly across twenty-one tankobon volumes.
