Siren of Blue Youth (Gunjou ni Siren) is a nuanced sports drama written and illustrated by Mikan Momokuri, the pen name of famous creator Mizuki Kawashita. Departing from typical romantic comedies, the author delivers a grounded look at high school baseball fueled by psychological depth.
The story centers on Shuji Yoshizawa, who was traumatized in elementary school when his younger cousin Sora suddenly entered baseball and unintentionally eclipsed his position as pitcher. Harboring unresolved resentment, Shuji abandoned the sport upon entering high school.
Fate intervenes during high school registration when Shuji unexpectedly encounters Sora again in the school's baseball club. While Shuji attempts to position himself as a catcher, he is forced to directly face his past insecurities and complex feelings toward his talented relative.
